I attatched a coupleof my machines too the project when I found it. There were no jobs available, but that happens. Yesterday, jobs started appearing. The results are less than inspiring:

Valid : 8
Invalid : 90
Error : 7

No new tasks set on both machines, which are running Windows 8.1 x64.

There is something wrong here.

It could be due to your VirtualBox version.

Hello admin,
The same for me !!!
What is the problem ?
If all WU are in validation error, I can think it is on my side.
But 4 valid and 144 invalid !!!
And four WU already three hours running !!!
And this 4 WU are at 100% already one hour !!!
Of course after to have see it, I cancelled all other WU (431).
Host 761 (only admin can see it) Sorry after so many attacks against boinc.be, all is hidden for hackers.
Admin, what happens ?
Example : https://boinc.nanohub.org/nanoHUB_at_home/workunit.php?wuid=294569

Thanks for letting us know. We will investigate. Interesting that the same WU was successful on Linux.

I have the installer for VirtualBox 5.1.28 on the disk here, so have installed it and will try again later. I can't do it now, I have to build a 32 bit system on another SSD, I need to have a working printer, and my Laserjet does not appear to have a 64bit driver.

Since midnight EST (05:00 UTC), I have had 53 valid and 12 error (either "196 (0x000000C4) EXIT_DISK_LIMIT_EXCEEDED" or "197 (0x000000C5) EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED") on my i7-8700 running Ubuntu 18.04.1 and VitualBox 5.1.38. That is pretty good, considering that they were all resends (_1 or _2) that had failed on other machines.

However, it indicates that some of the other machines are probably not configured or operated correctly. Maybe the wrong VirtualBox version, insufficient memory, overclocking or whatever?

(I have gotten only six on my i7-4770, but they were all valid, so the same comment applies.)

PS - I have run only two on my Windows 7 64-bit machines, but both were invalid even though they validated OK on other machines. That does not prove much, but maybe Linux has a higher success rate than Windows? All interesting questions.

I am thinking that if I crunch a work unit to the end and it runs out of time because of parameter set by the project I should get credit or the work. My machine has put in the time and it could have been doing another project.

I have a few of these on my Linux machines which this is an example:

Interesting though, isn't it, that the problem is only found with THIS project? With the virtualbox version, putting an older version on, instead of the current, is not a solution, it is a bodge.

Hello for your printer I guess it is a older model.
So, when inst§alling, ru it using the compatibilty mode try under Win7 x86 or eventuually under "XP" mode.
Normally it works (A x64 OS will only add 4 bytes at value "0" at begibnning of instruction)

My printer is old. It is an HP Laserjet 4. I have had it since late in the last centuary. I have rarely used it, but it is sometimes nice to be able to knock out 20 Christmas circulars.I bought a newer, modern, printer, a colour inkjet, but rarely need to print anything and it quickly died with blocked jets. The laser just kept knocking out the 20-30 sheets per year I needed. I rebuilt my systems to all 64 bit and didn't really think about it until the Christmas circular was dawning, and have been fiddling with it since.

A few more work units arrived, and failed.

The error rate probably won't improve until they send out a new batch; the ones they are sending now have all failed on other machines. But nevertheless, they aren't that bad.

On two Ubuntu machines, over the last 24 hours, the success rate has been around 90% (all using VirtualBox 5.1.38):
i7-4770: https://boinc.nanohub.org/nanoHUB_at_home/results.php?hostid=836
i7-8700: https://boinc.nanohub.org/nanoHUB_at_home/results.php?hostid=816

I am trying to get some on a Windows machine too, but none so far.

No, they fail pretty quickly. I've kept the project enabled on this machine so I can keep an eye on it.

Started a few work units today on the same machine it failed on with Exit status 197 (0x000000C5) EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED and they are finishing and validating.

Just a suggestion but you should seriously consider server aborting the work in process. Virtually all of them have failed to validate multiple times and are just wasting resources by re-sending them.

I have stopped crunching this project and have advised my Team of the results I have found.

I ran 320 tasks and got 41 errors, mostly on Linux. It is all the errors that are the problem as all of them ran over an hour before stopping so I waited 41 hours and no credit. My credit is 1849 and I did 320 good tasks so that is 5.778125 credits per hour which is very very low.

Fix the errors and I will come back.

I got about the same error rate, 20 errors and 273 successes (293 total) on the last batch. It seems that the errors are mainly "196 (0x000000C4) EXIT_DISK_LIMIT_EXCEEDED"

It looks like the "Peak disk usage" is around 2,000 MB. They could double the limit and see if it works.
It should not cause a problem for too many people.

Every task for me aborted after 105 minutes from the last batch. No reported CPU usage.
